Orange Private Hospital
Orange NSW, Australia
Orange Private Hospital, which opened in June 2021, is a premium boutique short stay private hospital. AVA was engaged to design and develop a private hospital fitout across two levels of the new Bloomfield Medical Centre in Orange. The new private hospital contains 22 ward rooms and 7 operating theatres. I was involved from the Concept Design phase through to Tender.
I assisted the director in developing the hospital layout and was responsible in complying with both statutory requirements and the Australasian Health Facility Guidelines (AHFG). It was challenging to the ensure the workflow room areas meets the AHFG while also meeting the Client’s brief.
The base-building’s single core scissor fire stair posed a design challenge in terms of fire safety due to extended travel distances which exceed the Deemed-to-Satisfy (DTS) solution for BCA Class 9a use. Through liaising with the base-build fire engineer on behalf of the Client, a fire compartmentation strategy was adopted. I was responsible for liaising with the fire engineer in calculating and design the location of the compartmentation that satisfies his Fire Engineer Brief and works with the architectural layout.
